For this project, students selected a contemporary artist who has created a body of work within the last 30 years that has the same racial/ethnic background as themselves. They conducted a small amount of research on the artist, about their biography and work. They then created a figure drawing or a portrait of themselves in the style of the artist that they chose, and included 5 points of research that closely relate to their life/work/style. The students considered the importance of identity and the close relationship that it has to everything we do, and all of the work we create.
